I like the Pocahontas State Park as the best camping spot. It seems to have all electrical conveniences like grills. Also the availability of showers and rent paddle boats too! It is very impressive. Grayson Highlands State Park is another great place especially for scenic surroundings like waterfalls, pony spotting, and nature trails. Virginia itself is a lovely place to explore from my memories of Shenandoah countryside from years ago. Would love to go there again. :-).

I really appreciate your list of great camping spots in Virginia because I love to hike and spend the night in a tent at friendly campgrounds, so I’m adding your list to my favorites. I want to make a road trip to Virginia in the early fall. You have so many state parks on your list, which is perfect because I like stopping at them. I love the amazing view of Hungry Mother State Park and the idea of kayaking there, so I add it to my list. Also, Chippokes State Park seems perfect, as I like the idea to sleep in yurts. For sure I will visit Prince William Forest Park as it offers 18 miles of streams, man-made lakes, and lots of hiking trails.

I really love sleeping in a tent. And while I do not go camping for camping sake – I like to do multi-day hikes with the tent. The US seem to be so perfect for all sort of outdoor adventures with all these state parks with camping and hiking possibilities. I never thought of Virginia as a great place for camping, but after reading this post, I have changed my opinion!

Such a great resource for camper enthusiasts. How unique of New River state park to have wagons carry your gear to your site. It would definitely make for great looking camp sites to not have any vehicles parked.

Indeed Virginia is one of the best states for camping. Good to know that you can also rent a cabin or yurt at Pocohontas State Park. New River Trail State Park sounds super interesting. I love that they’re still primitive camping grounds and are meant for the almost wild campers! Snakes, turtles, frogs, and maybe even some dolphins? I already like False Cape State Park. I do like the views from Hungry Mother State Park and good to know that they allow tent camping. I like it.

I live in VA and always laugh when I see some of the names like Hungry Mother and Douthat. I do need to check some of these out, though! We just got an RV in 2022, and heading to Williamsburg would be fun in our campervan. Truly, if folks like camping, they can experience so much in the mountains, near the beach, or close to historical sites. I love my state!

I haven’t been camping in so long, plus I’ve never been this far north in the US. So this could fix both problems if my family ever decides to do something a little more outlandish for a family vacation. Thank you for telling us about these parks! That all look beautiful!
