Innovative Waterproof Socks

Waterproof Socks

Waterproof socks.  Pauline Alba tackles the big question, do you need waterproof socks?

If you are like me, this statement can make your brain go in many directions.  At first, you think, how wonderful to never have to wear wet socks.  Having large dogs who spill more water on the floor than they drink, waterproof socks would be wonderful, but I could also just wear shoes.  Then you start to wonder when would you need them. When I agreed to review them, this was my biggest dilemma, when would I wear waterproof socks?

Wautton Company

One of the biggest reasons I agreed to try them out was the company that they are coming from.  I did a review for their waterproof waist hiking fanny pack back in 2022.  I enjoyed the product and found that the company was very interested in what we thought of the product. The company was formed by an outdoor enthusiast looking for quality gear.  Most of their products have positive reviews and are affordable to the average consumer.  The past review can be found here: https://www.campingforwomen.com/wautton-2022-waist-hiking-fanny-pack

The Socks

Back to the socks!  Once they arrived, I put them on and walked in the snow!  Unfortunately, I didn’t have any running rivers or puddles to play in, but the ability to walk through the frozen water in socks was an unforgettable event.  At first, I thought they were getting wet, but I realized it was the cold coming through.

The outer part of the sock is made out of 98% nylon and 2% Elastic.  The inside of the socks is 70% bamboo rayon and 30% nylon.  They are thicker than most socks that you would wear for hiking or other adventures.  This would have to be accommodated for when you wear them ensuring you have the room in your current shoes.  They reminded me of the SCUBA socks I would wear when SCUBA diving.

Trying out the socks

The socks became a lot of fun to try out.  I wore them outside all the time without any shoes to see how long until my feet got cold and if they would get wet.  They are waterproof.  They are also warm.  In February we tried them out at the beach!

My husband borrowed them to keep his feet a little warmer while fishing from the shore, a reminder it was February and a bit chilly.  It was nice to find out that sand did not stick to them and they were easy to rinse off.  We did determine when they became fully soaked when water entered from the top, they do take a while to dry out.  They will also absorb some water on the outside if you are standing in a puddle.

My impression

These were comfortable to wear

While it is fun to try out new things, I spent a lot of time considering if this would be a product I would need.  I have found many ways to use them, but why would I encourage others to purchase them?  I think that if you are out in the colder weather hiking in wet conditions you would notice a benefit.

We all think our shoes are waterproof until water enters that one spot.  I do think they would get warm if you planned to wear them for long periods.  The waterproof socks will find a spot in my hiking backpack for the time that I end up stepping in a puddle or I end up wetter than expected.  Having these warm and dry socks to put on even with a wet shoe would make the rest of my hike much more enjoyable.

I may not have thought that I needed waterproof socks, but I now acknowledge how a small purchase could change the outcome of unexpected wet conditions.  If you are an avid hiker, biker, hunter, or spent a lot of time waterside, wearing waterproof socks could increase the likelihood of an enjoyable time.  In the event things change, you would have socks that would protect you from that one wet shoe. I can also see a big benefit if you experience winters like we do.  They would be a great addition to your winter travel kit.

If I have encouraged you to check them out try this brand out.  You can purchase them directly from the Wautton site at https://www.wautton.com/products/waterproof-breathable-socks-for-hiking-hunting-fishing-camping-cycling?variant=36982146597021 .  They priced at $29.99 for a pair and come in different colors and patterns.

I would say that they size closer to a male size shoe.  I ended up with them a little big as I ordered a large and wear a size 11 women’s shoe. They are tight on the feet and legs still but the length of the bottom foot is a little long.  Shipping is free if you are willing to wait 7-15 business days.

I hope that you take the time to check them out and see if you can answer the question “Do I need waterproof socks?” and if yes, check out the Wautton brand for an affordable option.

These would be great for the cold beaches here in Ireland, especially for those who go sea swimming all year round.

My daughter recently had a school camping trip. She came home feeling cold, as her feet were wet and cold. I wish I had read this sooner.

This is quite an idea. But we don’t hike much anymore. Perhaps it will be great for a grandson who does. No more cold feet!

I’m so glad I saw this. I didn’t know you could get waterproof socks but I think my daughter may need some. She is scheduled to do a 3 day hike in a few weeks and I hear the weather won’t be good. I might grab a few of those.

Waterproof socks? What will they think of next? I have to get some of these. I live in Chicago, and the winter gets soggy and gross.

I actually kind of love this idea! I can’t count how many times I’ve gotten wet feet in a mishap, especially when traveling. I’d wear them.

Waterproof socks are a must-have for camping or during flooding when you have to walk through water. I was pleased to read that they don’t pick up sand and are easy to rinse off
