Journey Driven tracker and journal for solo female travellers
By Erica Angel
Two years ago, shortly after my 21st birthday, I took a leap into something I would consider the single most frightening, exciting, liberating decision of my life so far, as I embarked on my first solo adventure to South East Asia.
Although my parents were initially shocked by the decision, they seemed genuinely excited and were overwhelmingly supportive throughout the entire process. Only thing was, I felt guilty from start to finish about the amount of anxiety I brought into their lives. They had no idea what S/E Asia was all about and could barely picture it being anything other than a war-torn place.
But as my start date approached and my trip officially began, I found my ways to keep them updated with photos and descriptions whenever I could. I found this process to be distractingly cumbersome.
Then I met someone with a bright idea, who completely understood the experience I was having. He was building and testing a travel app that ended up having a huge impact on my life. It helped us keep in touch after parting ways and eventually helped lead to us dating. Now we work on building the dream together, and are both very excited to be releasing it into the wild next month!

So, what exactly am I talking about?
Journey Driven is a mobile app inspired by a 16-month backpacking adventure around the world through 26 countries. The idea, dreamt up while driving a motorbike through Vietnam for 5 weeks, uses the untapped potential of your common cell phone in ways never done before.
The offline travel tracker leverages untapped location technology to produce a seamless digital blog along the way. The main feature being the ability to automatically log travels via a mobile device, even without needing a data plan, SIM card, or cell coverage.
Journey driven uses this innovative solution to privately keep your loved ones updated as you travel, complete with your travelled path, current location, mapped photos, pinned narratives, and tracked travel stats.
The concept is to make documenting and sharing your travels automatic and effortless, so you can disconnect from your phone and reconnect with what’s around you.
Features
- Automatically track your travelled path
- Privately update family and friends along the way.
- Effortlessly document travel stats and details
- Geo-pin your photos to a map
- Works offline: No data, internet, or cell service needed

Why It’s Unique
Journey Driven sets itself apart from other travel apps by leveraging the ability to work offline without using any data, thanks to its proprietary algorithm that patches together location data in ways never done before.
The inclusive social map feature is also unique, allowing travel buddies to keep tabs on each other once they part ways, and literally see where their paths cross as their adventures continue.

They believe the world is a wild place of wonder and adventure. That travelling has the power to change the way we see it, and the ability to crack us open and shine light into who we are truly meant to be. The power to show us our potential and intended path, and we only hope to expand that mindset outward.
She believes experiencing the world brings us face to face with something much larger than ourselves. That an adventurous heart and open mind can lead to unlimited possibilities and bring us all closer together.
This app looks extremely cool! I can see the benefit of seeing where popular locations are for the every day traveler as well when on vacation and exploring the area.
Now, this is an awesome app! I’m gonna download this, so my parents can be automatically updated on my travels with some pics as well!
Indeed its a boon for solo travelers!
This sounds like a very useful app for everyone who travels solo and also for those who would want to document everything about their travels. And the best part is that its algorithm works even when its offline. I am sure for solo travelers this is going to be very useful and will also keep their parents stress-free.
Journey Driven sounds great. I’m really taken aback by its offline feature and I don’t think there is any other app with this feature.
This sounds like a cool concept. I love the idea of disconnect and reconnect phone with what’s available. This app could be travelers dream come true. Can’t wait for the launch.
Wow that app sounds so amazing. I was really looking forward to something like this in my life right now as we are always travelling and some times we have loss of reception where our families get worried. Am definitely gonna check this app and suggest it to my close family and friends.
I love that the app allows family members to track your whereabouts. I think about those who have gone hiking with family and friends in other countries and this app seems like it’s an extra set of protection and cool feature where you can see photos and other cool things.
Traveling is pretty much my favorite thing to do. I love discovering tools that make it easier, more convenient, or more interesting.
This is just perfect for me !! I’m going on my first solo trip ever and this would be perfect. I love that it works offline (PS can save some of the data and battery !!)
This app looks so cool. I love that it will allow you to privately update family and friends along the way. This is so helpful especially when traveling to a country or place you aren’t that familiar with.
This is PERFECT for me! And I’ve discovered it at just the right time before I head off on my Euro trip on New Year’s Eve! I’ve always felt guilty when I’m away for extended periods of time and my poor parents are at home worried about me and just waiting for my next call/msg whenever I get wifi but this will definitely ease their minds 🙂 I’ve signed up for early access! Woohoo!!!
This does sound like a very cool app. The ability to track when offline is cool. And then just the way it turns your adventures into kind of a video journal is sweet as well.
Journey Driven seems like a good app. Sometime back when we were traveling, we met someone who had a small gadget which he said tracks his journey and saves in back home on his computer and we have been thinking of getting something like that. But this app sounds much more convenient as it seems to have wonderful features and like it that it has been developed by someone who understands traveling well! I would consider this useful for all travelers though and not only for solo travelers.
I like that you can keep your loved ones updated privately. That’s an important feature when you are traveling.
This is amazing, especially the fact that it can work online without data.
Journey Driven looks like a cool and easy to use app, specially for documenting travels! Also it works offline! I would give it a try surely.
Sounds like a great idea to keep in touch with people and where they are travelling to. The interface looks nice and slick as well.
This looks awesome!! I’d love this!
I love that you can use this app even without a data plan! I am sharing this information with my brother and my cousin who are frequent travelers. They would love this for sure!
Thank you for this – I will look into it to see what maps are available for Europe.
What a cool app for solo female travelers. My favorite feature is that it also works offline. I’m not a girl obviously but I’m definitely sharing this list with my female friends that like solo traveling.
That is the best thing nowadays a very helpful device with an app for the easy ways to navigate the place and location from where you wanted too.
These types of apps are such a good idea. We use Life360 for our teen girls. Works great for when they’re walking, running or driving!
I think the family and friends updating is so great. Uber does that now too which is nice.
This sounds like an excellent app. My favorite feature is that it works offline. It looks like this would be incredibly helpful for solo travelers who want to keep in touch with loved ones, but it’s also great for groups, etc. I will definitely be looking into this for my travels.
We’re happy to hear your interested in Journey Driven and look forward to including on our early release!
Great review here. I love the sound of this app. Will be checking it out for sure. Thanks for sharing.
This is such a good idea and great for people who just want to update their friends and family of their adventures and where they are. I’m sure a lot of people will be able to use this x
Seems like a really good app, especially for females traveling on their own! Thanks for sharing
That’s an interesting app indeed. The fact that it can work in offline mode makes it most useful. All the best to the duo for success as their entrepreneurial venture.
