Gonex Packing Cubes – Keeping Your Gear Organized On The Go

Packing efficiently can make a significant difference in travel, whether for short getaways or extended trips.  No one enjoys digging through piles of clothing to find the one item they need once they open their bag or suitcase.  I tend to travel light on most of my trips with a backpack that I can take on a plane as a personal item or quickly throw in a car.  I usually find myself wanting to use that backpack for uses other than holding my clothes while on a trip, and have been looking for a good solution that doesn’t involve dumping my clothes out in the car or on my bed.  When Gonex asked me to try their set of packing cubes, I was excited to see if this was the solution I was looking for.

The Gonex Compression Packing Cubes Set

The Gonex Compression Packing Cubes Set offers four differently sized organizers designed to help structure and streamline how clothing and essentials are stored in luggage. Made from ultra-soft rip-stop nylon, each cube is lightweight yet designed to hold up under the demands of frequent use. The set includes an extra-large, large, medium, and small cube, each with a dedicated size to accommodate various types of clothing or gear.

Each cube is equipped with smooth, durable zippers and a compression feature that allows contents to be compacted, reducing bulk inside a suitcase or backpack. A convenient grab handle makes each cube easy to pull from packed luggage, and the fabric’s flexibility supports a variety of packing styles. This set is used for a wide range of tasks—from travel to outdoor activities to everyday organization.  I tried this set out in a few different ways to prepare for my summer of travel. 

Trying Them Out

The first use I had for the bags was when I needed to transport some awkward materials to work.  I needed to bring some 12×12 cardstock and vinyl sheets to work for a project we were doing there.  While I thought I could just carry them at first, I woke up to pouring rain.  I grabbed the X-L cube and found it was the perfect width to hold them securely.  I was able to fold it over to support them.  I carried my materials to work and kept them in good shape.  I could easily fill these cubes with different crafting supplies when I need a portable solution.  I used the smaller cubes to organize my different yarns for a crochet project I wanted to be portable. 

Next, I wanted to test out how well they worked for packing clothing.  I’m heading out on a trip this week, so I put the packing cubes to the test.  I’m starting this trip by flying to Bozman, Montana, to help a friend move back to Minnesota.  From there, I’ll drive to Fargo, ND, where I will meet up with some family to drive to Winnipeg, Manitoba. To make traveling easy, I plan to take only a backpack with me, but I’ll need a variety of clothing for changing weather and activities.   I read that packing cubes can work great for packing a backpack. 

After selecting the clothes I wanted along I played around with different ways to pack them.  I found the largest cube was too large for my backpack, but it did accommodate almost everything I wanted to take with me, including a hoodie.  I packed and unpacked the cubes multiple times and experimented with how much I could fit into each package.  I settled on the following: the large cube was perfect for packing all of my clothing, the medium cube held my extra pair of shoes, and the smallest cube was perfect for my undergarments and socks.

While trying different methods of packing, I tested the durability and compression ability of the packing cubes.  I stuffed the bags as full as I could and then pulled them closed. The zippers, seams, and fabric were durable and held up to the pressure of stuffing them full and then compressing the bags.  The small bag measured 21 inches around the middle when stuffed full and 19 inches when compressed; the large bag was 29 inches when stuffed full and 25 inches around when compressed. 

My Recommendation

This set of Gonex Packing Cubes is solid.  The zippers and fabric are durable.  The handles at the top make them easy to carry around and pull out of a bag.  The sizes are perfect for a variety of clothing.  They would be perfect for packing a suitcase to keep your items nice and neat. When my kids were little, we would often pack in plastic storage tubs, and these would work out perfectly in those, as well as organizing clothes.  I think a variety of smaller cubes would work better for packing my backpack but they will still work.  When I arrive at my destination, I will pull them out of my backpack; this will help me keep my clothing organized while letting me use the backpack for everyday activities.
