A comfortable place to sleep can make or break any trip, I’m sure many of you, like me, have learned that the hard way. From cold, uneven ground to air mattresses that lose air overnight, uncomfortable sleeping situations can change your fun adventure into an exhausting one. Portable beds, like air mattresses, come with their own challenge. They require electricity or a working pump, laying bedding on a dirty floor, or dealing with bulky, heavy gear that’s no fun to transport. When GO-KOT offered to send me one of their cots to review, I was interested to see whether it could address my frustrations and provide a more practical sleep solution for life on the go.

GO-KOT
GO-KOT is a mission-driven, American-made company with a legacy rooted in craftsmanship, durability, and service. Founded in 1978, the company has spent more than four decades building cots to exacting standards in the United States, making them a trusted choice for outdoor professionals, military personnel, first responders, and adventure enthusiasts. GO-KOT emphasizes a blend of time-honored construction methods and modern innovation, using domestically sourced materials such as rugged nylon, aluminum side poles, spring steel legs, and high-impact hinges to produce products designed for long-term use.
The company also highlights its commitment to supporting those who serve and protect through mission-driven giving, noting that its cots are used both in recreational settings and in humanitarian efforts. Backed by a three-year guarantee, GO-KOT positions its products and brand as focused on quality, reliability, and providing a dependable place to rest wherever it is needed.
The GO-KOT
The GO-KOT is an American-made camping cot designed for durability, portability, and fast setup. It has been handcrafted in Alabama since 1978 and built to meet the demands of outdoor enthusiasts as well as emergency and professional responders. GO-KOT uses military-grade materials, including 1000-denier nylon, high-quality aluminum, reinforced steel legs, and patented hinges, allowing it to support up to 350 pounds while remaining lightweight at 9 lbs. The cot can be set up in under 60 seconds without tools and packed down small enough for easy transport in its included carrying bag.

The Go-Kot comes in two size options, the OG and OG Long, to accommodate different height preferences while maintaining the same weight capacity and low-profile height. GO-KOT emphasizes ease of maintenance, noting that most dirt can be removed with a damp cloth and mild soap, with air drying recommended after cleaning or exposure to moisture. Backed by a three-year warranty, the GO-KOT is built to last and designed for repeated use across a wide range of outdoor and field conditions.
Trying Out the GO-KOT
The GO-KOT arrived during the winter when I’m unable to travel, so I didn’t have the opportunity to test it out on a true camping trip. However, I did spend time experimenting with different uses around the house, and I was able to put it to practical use when hosting a guest over the holidays. In both situations, the cot made a positive first impression.
Setup was quick and straightforward, just as the company claims. It did require a bit of muscle and coordination to get the first leg in place, but once I figured out the technique, attaching the remaining legs became much easier. The tension needed to secure the legs makes sense given the cot’s sturdy construction, and after a couple of practice runs, I could set it up confidently.
The sleeping surface is comfortable, firm, supportive, and more stable than an air mattress. My husband, who is over 6 foot and over 200 lbs even found the cot comfortable. I had him push the stability of the cot by rolling around. While he was able to tip it over, he had to roll over the side to get it to move.

I was curious to see how it would work in the back of my car. I found that the low profile made it fit the tight space well. It would make a night in the car comfortable. I found it much easier than dealing with an air mattress. To make it work in my small crossover SUV I would need to create some sort of support to hold the front leg of the cot, it would work very well in larger SUV, trucks, and vans.
I found one of the best features of the Go-Kot is that it packs down efficiently, fits easily back into its carrying bag, and is simple to transport. This makes it a great “just in case” item—compact enough to stash in your vehicle or grab for an unexpected overnight, yet durable enough to rely on regularly.
My Recommendation
Overall, the GO-KOT really impressed me with how well it’s built and how easy it is to use. It’s lightweight, packs down small, cleans up quickly, and is more comfortable than I expected. One of the best things about it is how flexible it is. You can use it in a car, a tent, or even as an extra bed for sleepovers or guests at home. Something that stood out is that Go-Kot sells affordable replacement parts for the cots on their website, making it a sustainable option.
It’s sturdy, straightforward to set up, and feels like something that will hold up for years. I think a lot of people would find it useful, whether they travel often, camp once in a while, or just like having a reliable backup sleeping option.
